Principa And Atura Announce Partnership To Provide World-Class Chatbot Solutions To The Credit And Collections Industry

February 19, 2019 at 10:50 AM

Cape Town, South Africa, 20 February 2019 – Principa Decisions, a South African data analytics and software company, and Atura, a software company specialising in instant messaging technology, have announced a partnership that offers the South African credit and collections industry a solution to support originations, customer management and collections via virtual agent chatbots on mobile and desktop devices.

The partnership represents the coming together of two significant components: Principa Decisions’ extensive experience and understanding of the credit and collections industry, and Atura’s industry-leading Artificial Intelligence-based technology solutions.  The partnership is therefore able to offer world-class Artificial Intelligence and data-driven instant messaging solutions specifically aimed at assisting the credit and collection’s industry to improve their customers’ experience and service levels, while decreasing costs associated with originations and collections.

“What made this partnership very appealing “, says Jaco Rossouw, Principa Decisions CEO, “is the great synergies that exist between our business in the form of what we call productised analytics. The key ingredients we were looking for in selecting the right technology partner was a cloud based technology solution and strong analytical capabilities to support a virtual agent conversation.  Atura ticked all the boxes to the above requirements and more”.

Dave Eagle, General Manager of Atura, echoed this sentiment: “We believe that Principa’s industry expertise and relationships, alongside our chat technology, make a powerful combination in the retail credit and collections space. Together we provide a service that benefits both businesses and their customers, and ultimately improves the retail credit industry in South Africa.”

The time is NOW for model validation and adjustment.

One of the major premises used in credit scoring is that “the future is like the past”. It’s usually a rational assumption and gives us a reasonable platform on which to build scorecards whether they be application scorecards, behavioural scores, collection scores or financial models.  That is reasonable until something unprecedented comes along.  You can read about this black swan event in our previous two blogs here and here

10 ways the COVID-19 crisis will affect your credit models (PART 1)

One of the basic principles of credit scoring and modelling is that the “future is like the past”.  Whilst robust credit models may be calibrated on multiple time periods, this assumes that trends in the past represent what is going on today.  COVID-19 is a black swan event – meaning in the modern day it really is unprecedented.  If you have never come across the term black swan, or if you have but no idea the origin, I recommend taking two minutes to read its really interesting etymology.
